Cornwall || Botallack Mine

For our last day of 2016 we decided to take a little trip to Penzance followed with a walk at Botallack Mine. Bottallack was recently voted by National Trust as its 'Top 12 Best Winter Walks' so we knew we had to visit.

We started the day by wandering the historic streets of Penzance. A town we normally drive through... but after stumbling across No.56 on Instagram I knew this store would be a must visit. It has the most beautiful curated homewares that I have to admit were really reasonably priced for the quality and craftmanship of the products. You could tell that each piece within this store was lovingly chosen by the owners. Although we walked away empty handed, we know we will be going back in again soon to buy some new pieces for our recently brought Cornish cottage as we do it up.

We didn't realise the 'Cornish Barn' which is part of the 'Artist Residence' was just a few doors down, so we couldn't resist stopping for a quick hot chocolate and a bite to eat. Alex did not stop talking about how good the cheeseburger was for a good few hours so we highly recommend you popping in to visit for a bite to eat. The Georgian building that the artist residence resides in, is truly stunning. A place that I would love to stay if I was not local to the area!

We then took a short drive to Botallack Mine on the North Coast to walk off the lunch. We arrived around 3pm and it was the most perfect timing. The sun was on its way down, and there was hardly any wind. It did not feel like a winter's day as it was so warm. We had never been on this part of the coast path before and we both admitted it was a beautiful spot. There were derelict Cornish mines dotted around the landscape with some even built down into the cliff face. I can't even imagine how they built these back in the day... let alone in todays times.

Walking along the coastal path, we could not get over how lucky we are to call Cornwall our home. For years we spoke about buying a property and moving to this county full time but my line of work always managed to take us further and further away.... I absolutely love the photos that Alex took of this day as I feel they capture a moment in our life where we both feel truly happy and content and dare I say it...settled!! A word we never thought would come from our mouths, as we have not felt settled in such a long time. We are both so excited to become parents this years, and to be able to bring up our little baby up surrounded by what we feel is the most beautiful part of the world. How lucky they will be!!
